英语教育学院的开创者是上世纪80年代以来我校从事大学英语教育和专业英语(经贸英语、管理英语、法律英语等)教育的教师们。20多年的发展壮大培养了这支教师队伍英语强、专业好的核心竞争力。在1996年成立的大学外语部和2001年成立的基础英语学院(经贸学院、管理学院、法学院、交流学院等学院的专业英语)的基础上,2005年由这支充满活力、勇于创新、跨学科整合力极强的大学英语教师队伍根据大学发展壮大的需要组建了跨学科学院——英语教育学院。学院现有教职工138名,其中,专职教师126名,教授、副教授23名,讲师102名,学院每年还聘请多名经验丰富的外籍专家。学院教师中获取博士、硕士学位或研究生学历的占90%以上。
学院设英语教育系、综合英语一部、综合英语二部、专业英语部、网络视听说部和研究生英语部,负责英语教育学院教学和全校非英语专业学生大学英语与研究生英语教学。大学英语、大学高级英语、英语写作、比较教育等教学团队引领学院的教学不断向更高水平迈进。学院新成立的大学英语学习支持中心为学生的自主学习提供随时随地的学习支持。学院设有大学英语研究中心、专业英语研究中心、教师发展研究中心、比较教育研究中心和教育语言学研究中心,从事大学英语、专业英语、教师发展、比较教育和教育语言学等领域的系统研究。学院不断加强英语教育学学科建设的力度,积极申报课程与教学论、教育学原理和比较教育学硕士点,正逐步形成一支学科整合力强、富有潜力的学科建设梯队。学院设立有英语教师培训中心和教学外联部,为服务社会做出了积极的贡献。学院积极开拓对外合作渠道,建立了多个校外教研实习基地,不断开拓与国外大学教育学院合作的空间。学院党建思政工作、学生工作、工会工作丰富多彩,综合管理严谨有序,为营造特色鲜明的英语教育学院文化做出了积极的贡献。
学院正逐步形成“理想激励人,事业吸引人,发展鼓舞人,情感感召人,待遇稳定人,政策鞭策人”的和谐机制。学院强调以人为本,成为师生工作、学习、实现人生理想的温暖大家庭。
About Us
The forerunners of the School of English & Education (SEE) were teachers for college English and ESP in the Guangdong University of Foreign Studies. In 2005, in accordance with the ever expanding of the university and on the basis of the College English Teaching Department founded in 1996 and the then Institute for English Language Education restructured in 2001, a new interdisciplinary school, the School of English & Education, was founded with the efforts of its pioneering and innovative teachers. Through more than twenty years since 1980s, the faculty has developed its competitive edge featuring solid foundation of English language courses and distinctiveness of educational courses. It enjoys a staff of more than 130 with 120 odd full-time teachers, including more than 20 full and associate professors, more 70 lecturers and a number of experienced overseas scholars. The teachers with doctor’s or master’s degree occupy more than 90% of total staff members.
The six departments in the school, namely, the English Education Department, the 1st and 2nd Integrated English departments, the Content-based English department,the English Listening & Speaking department and Graduate English Department take charge of educating English education majors and offering English courses for non-English majors in the university. The teaching quality of the school, with its prominent teaching teams leading ahead, including College English Teaching Team, College Advanced English Teaching Team, English Writing Teaching Team and Comparative Education Teaching team, is marching to a higher level consistently. The newly established College English Learning Support Center is ready to assist students in their autonomous learning on any occasions. The School also sets up five research centers to carry out academic studies on College English, Content-based English, Teacher Development, Comparative Education and Educational Linguistics respectively. By applying for the master programs in Curriculum & Instruction, Principles of Education and Comparative Education, the faculty is speeding up its discipline construction and bringing up its own group of talents with great potential abilities to incorporate different subjects. The same impressive progress is seen in its social service sector due to the establishment of English Teacher Training Center and Liaison Department. With Quite a few off-campus teaching and researching practice bases built up recently, the faculty is opening up new opportunities to cooperate with its counterparts both home and abroad. SEE’s political work, students management, faculty administration and labor union activities are colorful and orderly, playing a key role in building up the unique culture of our school.
A harmonious mechanism is taking shape in the school, which advocates “imbuing people with lofty ideals, attracting people with promising cause, motivating people with rapid development, inspiring people with persistent caring, retaining people with generous returns, urging people with scientific policies”. The faculty-oriented school has become a warm family for teachers to work and for students to study.
教育学(英语教育)专业特色
本专业学生在校期间将参加英语专业四级和八级测试。通过英语和教育理论的学习与教学实习,形成良好的英语教师素养,获得从事各类学校英语教学与研究和企事业单位英语培训与管理的较强能力。主要就业去向:大中学及科研院所、涉外企事业单位、政府机关综合经济管理部门、海关、外事机构和企业单位。从事的主要工作:到教育、外事、外贸、科技翻译、新闻出版、广播影视、涉外企业、旅游公关、企事业等部门或单位从事英语教学、培训、科研、口译、笔译等与英语语言文学有关的工作。该专业毕业生将成为在教育、外事、经贸、文化、新闻、旅游、科研等部门从事教学、培训、翻译和管理工作的高级英语与教育专业人才。
主要专业课程包括两大模块:
1、英语语言文学课程:综合英语、英语口语、英语视听、高级英语、英语国家文化、英语笔译、英语口译、英美文学、语言学概论等。
2、用英语或双语开设的教育学课程:教育学原理、课程与教学论、中国教育史、外国教育史、英语教学法、教育心理学、教育领导学、比较教育学、教育文化学、教育技术学。
Features of Education Major (English Education)
Students majoring in English Education shall pass TEM 4 and TEM 8 for graduation. Through learning English language and education theories, along with teaching practice, they will develop all-around capacities on English teaching and research in educational institutions, English training and management in enterprises.
Occupation Orientation: universities, high schools, R&D institutions, foreign-related enterprises and government institutions, managerial departments of government agencies, customs, foreign affairs departments and corporations.
Career orientations: English teacher, English trainer, researcher, interpreter, translator or other positions related to English language and culture in institutions and enterprises of education, foreign affairs, foreign trade, the news and publishing industry, broadcasting, film and television industry, tourism, public relations, and government agencies. English Education major graduates will grow into highly qualified talents working as teachers, trainers, translators and managers in education, foreign affairs, trade and commerce, culture, media, tourism, and research sections
Major courses consist of two modules:
1. Courses of English language and culture: Integrated English, Oral English, New Perspectives, Advanced English, An Introduction to English-speaking Countries, Translation, Interpretation, British Literature and American Literature, General Linguistics, Educational Linguistics, etc.
2. Courses in English or in bilingual of education: Principles of Education, Curriculum and Instruction, History of Chinese Education, History of Foreign Education, Teaching Methodology, Educational Psychology, Educational Leadership, Comparative Education, Culture of Education and Educational Technology.
