人文学院的前身可追溯至学校建立之初,即政治课教学小组。1954年,改名为马列主义教研组。1956年5月,成立马列主义教研室。此后,多次互为更名。1980年6月,成立社会科学部。1992年12月,改社会科学部为社会科学系。1999年7月,成立人文学院。
2008年9月,学校决定原属于人文学院的社会科学部被撤销,成立思想政治理论部,成为独立的二级机构,由校党政直接领导。
人文学院拥有三个系四个专业,分别为公共管理系行政管理专业、法学系法学专业、传播系媒体专业和公共关系专业,拥有近千名本科生。人文学院设有科学技术哲学、中国近现代史、行政管理、科学技术史、马克思主义哲学和马克思主义原理等六个硕士点,共有在读研究生80余名。近年来,人文学院承担国家和上海市科研项目十余项,年发表论文一百三十余篇,出版专著十余部。
人文学院共有教师77人,其中教授12名,副教授25名;具有博士学位25人,硕士学位32人。人文学院注重人才培养,合理调配师资力量,形成以中青年教师为主体的教学和科研队伍,在各专业中建立有影响的学术梯队;人文学院教师坚持学高为师,身正为范的行为准则,孜孜不倦,教书育人,不少教师获得上海市育才奖等各类奖项,并被学生誉为“心目中的好老师”。
人文学院正依托学校的理工资源,坚持本科教育和研究生教育并重,把学院建成具有浓厚人文色彩的教学园地。
The predecessor of College of Humanities, the Politics Teaching Group, can be traced back to the founding of Donghua University. It was renamed as the Marxism-Leninism Teaching and Research Group in 1954. In May 1956, the Marxism-Leninism Teaching and Research Office was set up and got several name changes thereafter. June 1980 witnessed the founding of Social Science Division and December 1992 saw its alternation to Social Science Department. In July 1999, College of Humanities was consequently founded.
In September 2008, Donghua University made a decision to cancel Social Science Department originally affiliated with College of Humanities and set up Ideology and Politics Theory Department, which functions as an independent subordinate organization led directly by Party Committee and Political Committee of Donghua University.
College of Humanities is comprised of 3 departments and 4 majors, respectively Administrative Management of Department of Public Management, Law of Department of Law, Media and Public Relations of Department of Communication. Currently the college has nearly 1,000 undergraduate students. College of Humanities comprises 6 master’s degree programs including Philosophy of Science and Technology, Chinese Modern History, Administrative Management, History of Science Advance, Marxism Philosophy and Principles of Marxism Philosophy with an enrollment of over 80 postgraduate students. In recent years, College of Humanities has undertaken a dozen national and Shanghai scientific research projects. It has published more than 130 papers and 10 books every year.
The college has 77 teachers now, of whom 12 are professors and 25 are associate professors, 25 have doctor’s degree and 32 have master’s degree. College of Humanities, by focusing on the cultivation of talented people and reasonable allocation of teachers, has formed the teaching and research team mainly consisted of middle-aged and young teachers and established an influential academic echelon in every major. Teachers of the college adhere to principle that great learning makes a teacher and moral integrity makes a model, work diligently and tirelessly in teaching knowledge and educating talents. Many teachers have been granted to various awards including the Shanghai Municipal Award for Bringing up Talents (Shanghai Yucai Award) and honored as ‘The Best Teacher in My Heart’ by students.
College of Humanities is, by relying on science and engineering resources of the university and sticking to the guideline of attaching equal importance to undergraduate and postgraduate education, building itself into a fantastic teaching land of strong humanity characteristics.
